Photonic Systems Engineer - Electronics - Devon - IM231 Salary / benefits: c£30-45k, dependent upon experience Job Term: Permanent / Full Time Job Outline: A leading manufacturer of Photonic Systems is now looking for a Photonic Systems Engineer to join their rapidly expanding team. Your main responsibilities will be to lead the development of new fiber-optic modules and laser terminal systems, including the coordination of product development and R&D projects. Working within a multidisciplinary team of engineers you will develop cutting-edge and enabling products for space and aerospace applications. This is a hands on development role which will require you to project manage new product developments, and work across multidisciplinary teams to deliver results. You will design and develop next-generation photonic systems for free-space laser communications; apply photonic module design concepts to develop prototypes and new products that involve concurrent optical circuit, mechanical and electronics design. Develop and execute on test plans for prototype systems and functional and environmental verification of photonic systems in space environment. Working from the Devon offices, there will be requirements to visit other sites, this is expected to be less than 5% of the time. Qualifications: As the successful candidate you will be qualified to Degree Level or Higher in Physics or Engineering, with a specialisation in Photonics. Experience: As the successful candidate you will have a track record developing photonic systems, including module and system integration of fiber-optic, opto-electronic and electronic components. You should also have expertise on design and development of fiber-optic and free-space transmission systems (analog, digital, coherent). Knowledge on testing and qualification of components and sub-systems based on Telcordia, MIL-STD or ESCC / ECSS is preferred, although not essential. You should have at least 5 years experience in product development of photonic modules and systems. Candidates with a strong background in space technologies will be given preference.
